A Broadway musical directed by Joseph Anthony and produced by David Merrick that never formally opened. It was based on the Truman Capote novella and 1961 film of the same name about a free spirit named Holly Golightly.
Originally titled Holly Golightly, the title was changed to Breakfast at Tiffany’s when the preview shows began.
The musical used a book by Edward Albee in favor of the initial version by Abe Burrows. Notable composer Bob Merrill provided the score. The cast included Mary Tyler Moore, Richard Chamberlain, Sally Kellerman, Larry Kert, and Priscilla Lopez. It was designed by Oliver Smith, and choreographed by Michael Kidd with assistance from Tony Mordente.
Despite the impressive list of collaborators involved in the production, the project never formally opened and closed after four preview shows.
